A recent survey suggests that if Local Authorities do not set more ambitious targets, then Great Britain could be missing out on a huge 510,000 new houses over the next decade!
BNP Paribas Real Estate conducted a survey with all of the local authorities in England and their report showed their new hosuing targets of 170,000 a year are not in line and reflecting government forecasts of 221,000 New Homes a year.
Adrian Owen, BNP Paribas Real Estate's National Head of Residential, said that many English Council's have missed theit targets. "In 2012 only 115,000 new homes were completed in England, while completions in the first quarter of 2013 were 23% lower than the first quarter in 2012".
Ed Bidwell, Head of Structural Warranties at Evolution Insurance commented, " one of the main issues in local authority planning departments is lack of resource to deal with applications. This has to change if we are to meet housing targets".
